अ॒द्या दू॒तं वृ॑णीमहे॒ वसु॑म॒ग्निं पु॑रुप्रि॒यम् । धू॒मके॑तुं॒ भाऋ॑जीकं॒ व्यु॑ष्टिषु य॒ज्ञाना॑मध्वर॒श्रिय॑म् ॥

(अद्य) अस्मिन् दिने। निपातस्य च इति दीर्घः। (दूतम्) यो दुनोति पदार्थान् देशांतरं प्रापयति तम् (वृणीमहे) स्वीकुर्वीमहि (वसुम्) सकलविद्यानिवासम् (अग्निम्) पावकमिव विद्वांसम् (पुरुप्रियम्) यः पुरूणां बहूनां प्रियस्तम् (धूमकेतुम्) धूमकेतुर्ध्वजो यस्य तम् (भाऋजीकम्) भाति प्रकाशयति सा भा भा कान्तिर्वा तां योऽर्जयते तम् (व्युष्टिषु) विविधा उष्टयः कामनाश्च तासु (यज्ञानाम्) अग्निहोत्राद्यश्वमेधान्तानां योगज्ञानशिल्पोपासनाज्ञानानां वा मध्ये (अध्वरश्रियम्) याऽध्वराणामहिंसनीयानां यज्ञानां श्रीः शोभा ताम् ॥३॥
पुनस्तं कथंभूतं स्वीकुर्य्युरित्युपदिश्यते।

We select to-day (having acquired human life and at the time of gaining knowledge) as messenger a good popular learned person, who shines like fire in assemblies and on the occasion of the fulfilment of noble desires; who is also like the fire among the non-violent Yajnas from Agnihotra to Ashwa Medha or consisting of Yoga, Shilpa (Industries) Upasana (communion with God) and knowledge, bearing the glory of the Yajnas of inviolable various kinds and fire-bannered spreader of the light.
