ऋतुओं के साथ वायु क्या-क्या कार्य्य करता है, इस विषय का उपदेश अगले मन्त्र में किया है-
Word-Meaning: - जो (इन्द्र) ऐश्वर्य्य वा जीवन का हेतु वायु (ब्राह्मणात्) बड़े का अवयव (राधसः) पृथिवी आदि लोकों के धन से (अनुऋतून्) अपने-अपने प्रभाव से पदार्थों के रस को हरनेवाले वसन्त आदि ऋतुओं के अनुक्रम से (सोमम्) सब पदार्थों के रस को (पिब) ग्रहण करता है, इससे (हि) निश्चय से (तव) उस वायु का पदार्थों के साथ (अस्तृतम्) अविनाशी (सख्यम्) मित्रपन है॥५॥
Connotation: - मनुष्यों को योग्य है कि जगत् के रचनेवाले परमेश्वर ने जो-जो जिस-जिस वायु आदि पदार्थों में नियम स्थापन किये हैं, उन-उनको जान कर कार्य्यों को सिद्ध करना चाहिये, और उन से सिद्ध किये हुए धन से सब ऋतुओं में सब प्राणियों के अनुकूल हित सम्पादन करना चाहिये, तथा युक्ति के साथ सेवन किये हुए पदार्थ मित्र के समान होते और इससे विपरीत शत्रु के समान होते हैं, ऐसा जानना चाहिये॥५॥

ब्राह्मणराधस् [ब्रह्म - सम्बन्धी सम्पत्ति]
Word-Meaning: - १. गतमन्त्र में सोमपान से दैवी सम्पति को प्राप्ति का उल्लेख था । उस दैवी सम्पति को प्राप्त करके यह सोमपान करनेवाला 'ब्राह्मसम्पत्ति' को प्राप्त करता है । हे (इन्द्र) - जितेन्द्रिय पुरुष! तू (ब्राह्मणात्) - ब्रह्म - सम्बन्धी (राधसः) - धन के दृष्टिकोण से - ब्रह्मसम्पत्ति को प्राप्त करने के लिए (ऋतून् अनु) - समय का ध्यान करके (सोमम् पिब) - सोम का पान कर । यौवन में ही शक्ति का सञ्चय करने से हमें इस जीवन में ही अवश्य ब्रह्मसम्पत्ति प्राप्त होगी ।
२. ऐसा होने पर (तव) - तेरा (इत् हि) - निश्चय से (सख्यम्) - ब्रह्म के साथ सख्य (अस्तृतम्) - अविच्छिन्न होता है - तू ब्रह्म से निरन्तर मैत्रीवाला होता है । जो भी व्यक्ति शरीर में इस सोम की रक्षा करता है , वह उस सोमप्रापक प्रभु से अभिन्न मैत्रीवाला होता है । यही ब्रह्मसम्बन्धी सम्पत्ति है । इस सम्पत्ति को प्राप्त करने के उद्देश्य से हमें समय पर ही सोम की शरीर में रक्षा करनी चाहिए ।
Connotation: - भावार्थ - शरीर में शक्ति के रक्षण से ब्राह्मीसम्पत्ति प्राप्त होती है । इस सम्पत्ति को प्राप्त करके जीव 'ब्रह्म इव' हो जाता है ।

ऋतुना सह वायुः किं करोतीत्युपदिश्यते।
Anvay:
य इन्द्रो वायुर्ब्राह्मणाद्राधसोऽन्वृतून् सोमं पिब पिबति गृह्णाति हि खलु तस्य वायोरस्तृतं सख्यमस्ति॥५॥
Word-Meaning: - (ब्राह्मणात्) ब्राह्मणो बृहतोऽवयवात्। अत्र अनुदात्तादेश्च। (अष्टा०४.३.१४०) इत्यवयवार्थेऽञ् प्रत्ययः। (इन्द्र) ऐश्वर्य्यजीवनहेतुत्वाद्वायुः। (राधसः) पृथिव्यादिधनात्। अत्र सर्वधातुभ्योऽसुन् इत्यसुन् प्रत्ययः। (पिब) पिबति गृह्णाति। अत्र व्यत्ययो लडर्थे लोट्, द्व्यचोऽतस्तिङ इति दीर्घश्च। (सोमम्) पदार्थरसम् (ऋतूनू) रसाहरणसाधकान् (अनु) पश्चात् (तव) तस्य प्राणरूपस्य (इत्) एव (हि) खलु (सख्यम्) मित्रस्य भाव इव (अस्तृतम्) हिंसारहितम्॥५॥
Connotation: - मनुष्यैर्जगत्स्रष्ट्रेश्वरेण ये ये यस्य यस्य वाय्वादेः पदार्थस्य मध्ये नियमा स्थापितास्तान् विदित्वा कार्य्याणि साधनीयानि, तत्सिद्ध्या सर्वर्तुषु सर्वप्राण्यनुकूलं हितसम्पादनं कार्य्यम्। युक्त्या सेविता एते मित्रवद्भवन्त्ययुक्त्या च शत्रुवदिति वेद्यम्॥५॥

Word-Meaning: - Indra, pranic energy of air, according to the seasons drink the soma juices of nature from the earthly treasuries created by the Supreme Lord of the universe. The vital relation of life with you is universal and inviolable.

Anvay:
The air takes the sap of the substances according to the seasons which are means of taking the same from the wealth in the form of the earth etc. made by the Supreme Being un-interrupted or inviolable is the friendship of the air in the form of the Prana or vital energy.
Word-Meaning: - (राधस:) पृथिव्यादिधनात् ।
= From the wealth in the form of the earth etc.
(ऋतून) रसाहरणसाधकान् ||
= Seasons which bring sap.
Connotation: - Men should know the laws which are operating in the air and other elements established by God and they should accomplish their works. By the accomplishment of those works, they should bring about the welfare of all beings in all seasons. It should be borne in mind that when all these substances are used methodically in a proper manner, they become like friends, otherwise they become inimical to us.
Footnote: In his commentary on the above Mantra, Rishi Dayananda has taken Indra for Vayu i. e. air or Prana, though he has not cited authorities. The following passages among many others may be quoted to substantiate his interpretation.
अयं वा इन्द्रो योऽयं (वातः) पवते (शतपथ ० १४.२.२६ ) यो वै वायुः स इन्द्रो य इन्द्रः स वायुः ॥ ( शत० ४.१. ३.९ ) सर्व वा इदमिन्द्राय स्थानमास यदिदं किंचापि योऽयं ( वायुः ) पवते । (शत० ३.९.४.१४ )
In these passages from Shatapath Brahmana, the meaning of the word Indra as वायु or air is clearly given. In his commentary Rishi Dayananda while explaining तवेन्द्रं सख्यमस्तृतम् has stated तव तस्य प्राणरूपस्य so he has taken Indra or Vayu as Prana for which the following passages may be aptly quoted- ततः प्राणोऽजायत स प्राणः इन्द्रः (शत० १४.४.३.१९ ) प्राण एवेन्द्र (शत० १२.९.१.१४) प्राण इन्द्रः । (शत० ६.१.२.२८) Besides the above interpretation of the Mantra regarding Vayu or air, the following spiritual (Adhyatmik) interpretation may also be given taking Indra for soul. "Omy soul ! drink the spiritual juice (of devotion) which is the gift of God, in all seasons, following the wise. Thy friendship with God is invincible and inviolable."
(ऋतून्) विदुषः ऋतवो वै देवाः (शत० ७.२.४.६)
The word Ritu in this spiritual interpretation may be taken for the wise enlightened persons.

Connotation: - जगाची निर्मिती करणाऱ्या परमेश्वराने जे जे वायू इत्यादी पदार्थांबाबत नियम केलेले आहेत त्यांना जाणून माणसांनी कार्याची सिद्धी करावी व त्यांच्याद्वारे सिद्ध केलेल्या धनाने सर्व ऋतूंत सर्व प्राण्यांच्या अनुकूल असेल असे हित पाहावे व युक्तीने सेवन केलेले पदार्थ मित्राप्रमाणे असतात व या विपरीत शत्रूप्रमाणे असतात, हे जाणले पाहिजे. ॥ ५ ॥
