अब अगले मन्त्र में अग्निशब्द से दो अर्थों का उपदेश किया है-
Word-Meaning: - हे (अग्ने) जगदीश्वर ! जैसे (कण्वाः) मेधावी विद्वान् लोग (त्वा) आपका (गृणन्ति) पूजन तथा (आहूषत) प्रार्थना करते हैं, वैसे ही हम लोग भी आपका पूजन और प्रार्थना करें। हे (विप्र) मेधाविन् विद्वन् ! जैसे (ते) तेरी (धियः) बुद्धि जिस ईश्वर के (गृणन्ति) गुणों का कथन और प्रार्थना करती हैं, वैसे हम सब लोग परस्पर मिलकर उसी की उपासना करते रहें। हे मङ्गलमय परमात्मन् ! आप कृपा करके (देवेभिः) उत्तम गुणों के प्रकाश और भोगों के देने के लिये हम लोगों को (आगहि) अच्छी प्रकार प्राप्त हूजिये॥१॥२॥हे (विप्र) मेधावी विद्वान् मनुष्य ! जैसे (कण्वाः) अन्य विद्वान् लोग (अग्ने) अग्नि के (गृणन्ति) गुणप्रकाश और (अहूषत) शिल्पविद्या के लिये युक्त करते हैं, वैसे तुम भी करो। जैसे (अग्ने) यह अग्नि (देवेभिः) दिव्यगुणों के साथ (आगहि) अच्छी प्रकार अपने गुणों को विदित करता है और जिस अग्नि के (ते) तेरी (धियः) बुद्धि (गृणन्ति) गुणों का कथन तथा (अहूषत) अधिक से अधिक मानती हैं, उससे तुम बहुत से कार्य्यों को सिद्ध करो॥२॥२॥
Connotation: - इस मन्त्र में श्लेषालङ्कार है। मनुष्यों को इस संसार में ईश्वर के रचे हुए पदार्थों को देखकर यह कहना चाहिये कि ये सब धन्यवाद और स्तुति ईश्वर ही में घटती हैं॥२॥

प्रभु का कण्वकृत स्तवन
Word-Meaning: - १. हे प्रभो ! गतमन्त्र के भाव को समझनेवाले (कण्वाः मेधावी पुरुष त्वा) - आपको ही (आ) - सब ओर से (अहूषत) - पुकारते हैं और हे (विप्र) - हमारा विशेष रूप से पूरण करनेवाले प्रभो ! (ते) - आपके (धियः) - बुद्धिपूर्वक होनेवाले कर्मों की (गृणन्ति) - स्तुति करते हैं , अर्थात् मेधावी पुरुष चारों ओर आपकी महिमा को देखते हुए आपका ही स्तवन करते हैं , उन्हें सब दिशाओं में आपकी ही विभूतियाँ दिखती हैं । ये हिमाच्छादित पर्वत - समुद्र - रसा [पृथिवी] उन्हें आपकी महिमा का गायन करते प्रतीत होते हैं । सूर्य , चन्द्र तथा नक्षत्रों में आपका ही स्तवन हो रहा होता है । आपके एक - एक कार्य में पूर्ण बुद्धिमत्ता का परिचय मिलता है ।
२. हे (अग्ने) - हमारे अग्रणी प्रभो ! आप (देवेभिः) - सब दिव्यगुणों के साथ (आगहि) - हमें प्राप्त होइए ।
Connotation: - भावार्थ - हम प्रभु का स्तवन करें , वे हमें प्राप्त हों और इससे सब दिव्यगुणों का हममें निवास हो ।

Anvay:
हे अग्ने ईश्वर ! यथा कण्वा मेधाविनस्त्वा त्वां गृणन्त्यहूषताह्वयन्ति तथैव वयमपि गृणीमः आह्वयामः। हे विप्र मेधाविन् ! तथा ते तव धियो यं गृणन्त्याह्वयन्ति तथा सर्वे वयं मिलित्वा तमेव नित्यमुपास्महे। हे मङ्गलमय परमात्मँस्त्वं कृपया देवेभिः सहागहि समन्तात् प्राप्तो भवेत्येकः॥१॥२॥हे विप्र विद्वन् ! यथा कण्वा अन्ये विद्वांसोऽग्निं गृणन्त्यहूषताह्वयन्ति तथैव त्वमपि गृणीह्याह्वय। यथा देवेभिः सहाग्न आगह्ययं भौतिकोऽग्निः समन्ताद्विदितगुणो भूत्वा दिव्यगुणसुखप्रापको भवति, यमग्निं ते तव धियो बुद्धयो गृणन्ति स्पर्धन्ते तेन त्वं बहूनि कार्य्याणि साधयेति द्वितीयः॥२॥२॥
Word-Meaning: - (आ) आभिमुख्ये (त्वा) त्वां जगदीश्वरं तं भौतिकं वा (कण्वाः) मेधाविनो विद्वांसः। कण्व इति मेधाविनामसु पठितम्। (निघं०३.५) (अहूषत) आह्वयन्ति शिल्पार्थं स्पर्धयन्ति वा। अत्र लडर्थे लुङ्, बहुलं छन्दसि इति सम्प्रसारणञ्च। (गृणन्ति) अर्चन्ति शब्दयन्ति वा। गृणातीत्यर्चतिकर्मसु पठितम्। (निघं०३.१४) गॄ शब्दे इति पक्षे शब्दार्थः। (विप्र) विविधज्ञानेन पदार्थान् प्राति पूरयति स विद्वान् तत्संबुद्धौ। (ते) तव तस्य वा (अग्ने) विज्ञानस्वरूप प्राप्तिहेतुर्भौतिकोऽग्निर्वा। (आ) क्रियायोगे (गहि) प्राप्नुहि प्रापयति वा। अत्र पक्षे व्यत्ययः। बहुलं छन्दसि इति शपो लुक्। वा छन्दसि। (अष्टा०३.४.८८) इति हेरपित्त्वात्, अनुदात्तोपदेश० (अष्टा०६.४.३७) अनेनानुनासिकलोपश्च॥२॥
Connotation: - अत्र श्लेषालङ्कारः। मनुष्यैरस्यां सृष्टावीश्वररचितान् पदार्थान् दृष्ट्वेदं वाच्यमिमे सर्वे धन्यवादाः स्तुतयश्चयेश्वरायैव सङ्गच्छन्त इति॥२॥

By Agni in the 2nd Mantra, both God and fire are to be taken.
Anvay:
(1) Omniscient God! as wise men extol Thee and sing Thee songs of praise, so do we also praise Thee. O wise man as thy intellect praises God, so we also glorify Him. O Gracious Lord, come Thou to us with all Divine attributes. (2) O wise man ! as other wise men tell the properties of the fire, so you should also do. This fire becomes the conveyer of divine attributes and happiness when its properties are properly known. The fire which your intellects praise, can accomplish your many works.
Word-Meaning: - (कण्वा:) मेधाविनो विद्वांसः कण्व इति मेधाविनामसु पठितम् (निघ० ३.५) = Wise men.
(गृणन्ति) अर्चन्ति गुणातीत्यर्चतिकर्मसु ( निंघ० ३.१४) अग्निपक्षे गृणन्ति शब्दयन्ति गृ-शब्दे इति धातोः = Worship and speak-tell the properties of.
(बिप्र) विविधज्ञानेन पदार्थान् जनान् वा प्राति पूरयति स विद्वान् तत्संबुद्धौ
= A learned wise man who fills all with his knowledge.
Connotation: - In this universe, when men see the objects created by God, they should say that all thanks are due to that Almighty.
Footnote: Both Wilson and Griffith are wrong in taking Kanvas used in the Mantra as a proper noun and saying in the footnote that "The Kanvas probably denote the descendants or the disciples of the Rishi Kanva, but the Scholiast (Szyanacharya charya) would restrict the term in this place to the sense of saxes (Medhavinah) or of officiating priests (Ritvijah). (Wilson's Translation Notes P. 224). Griffith translates the first line आ त्वा करावा अनूषत as “The Kanvas have invoked thee and says in the foot-note. "The Kanvas--sons or descendants of Kanva, men of same family. as the seer of the hymn. It is wrong because it is opposed to the principles of the Vedic technology according to which all nouns are derivatives or you Gikas. It is also against the meemansa principle in which it is clearly stated परन्तु श्रुतिसामान्य मात्रम् 1.31 and आख्या प्रवचनात् It is also opposed to the Vedic Lexicon Nighantu where it is clearly stated कण्व इति मेधाविनाम (निघण्टु ३.५) Even Sayanacharya whom these Western translators generally claim to follows says करावा:-मेधाविनऋत्विज: Wilsemen or priests. Skanda Swami interprets the word Kanvāh first as कण्वाःमेधाविनः कण्व इतिमेधाविनाम मेधाविन ऋत्विज: But it is surpristing that after giving this correct interpretation based upon the Vedic Lexicon Nighantu (3.5) he forgets the principle of the Vedic terminology and says--
अथवा कण्वा इति मेधातिथिरात्मानं प्रति सम्बन्धेनाह । एतस्मिन्नेव चात्मनीदं पुत्रपौत्रापेक्षया वा । मत् प्रभृतयः कण्वपुत्रा इत्यर्थः ||
This interpretation is un-authentic and misleading as pointed quit before. Rishi Dayananda's interpretation is therefore correct, being based upon the authority of the Ve Lexicon Nighantu 3.5. Unlike these other translators including Skanda Swami, Rishi Dayananda has been consistent through out in pointing out that the Vedas being eternal, can not have any historical references in them. It is a matter of great surprise and regret that even Kapali Shastri ji-the renowned South Indian Vedic Scholar who was the disciple of Shri Ramana Maharshi and Yogi Shri Aurabindo has committed the same blunder as other translators (except Rishi Dayananda) with regard to the interpretation of Kanvas. While he has rightly interpreted कणवा: (Kanvas) as मेघांविनः or wise men in the first place, he has put in the bracket these confounding words out of Orthodox impressions I believe, as as he has generally not followed Sayanacharya and strongly criticized him in some places वयं कण्व वंशजा वा. This seems to be an after-thought which is inconsistent with the principle. of the eternity of the Vedas and the meaning given in Vedic Lexicon -- Nighantu which has been quoted by me before. Generally Shri Kapali Shastri ji has given derivative meanings of such words and allegorical or metaphorical sense, but unfortunately in this case, though he has correctly given the meaning as given in the Vedic Lexicon-Lexicon-Nighantu 3-5 he has committed the same blunder as Skanda Swami and others in taking Kanvas as proper noun also.
