मनुष्य किसका सत्कार करें, इस विषय को कहते हैं ॥
पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - हे विद्वन् ! जिस कारण से (त्वम्) आप (दिवोदासाय) कामना करने योग्य पदार्थ के देने और (सुन्वते) सोमलतारूप ओषधि आदि की सिद्धि करनेवाले और (भरद्वाजाय) धारण किया विज्ञान जिसने उसके और (दाशुषे) विज्ञान के देनेवाले के लिये (इमा) इन (पुरु) बहुत (वार्य्या) स्वीकार करने योग्यों को देते हो, इससे प्रशंसा करने योग्य हो ॥५॥
भावार्थभाषाः - मनुष्यों को चाहिये कि सत्य के उपदेशकों और विद्या के प्रचारकों का सदा ही सत्कार करें, अन्य जनों का नहीं ॥५॥

हरिशरण सिद्धान्तालंकार
वरणीय प्रभु
पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - [१] हे प्रभो ! (त्वम्) = आप (इमा) = इन (वार्या) = वरणीय धनों को (पुरु) = खूब ही प्राप्त कराते हैं । आप इन वरणीय धनों को (दिवोदासाय) = ज्ञान के उपासक के लिये, (सुन्वते) = यज्ञशील पुरुष के लिये प्राप्त कराते हैं । [२] (भरद्वाजाय) = अपने में शक्ति का भरण करनेवाले के लिये आप इन धनों को प्राप्त कराते हैं। (दाशुषे) = दाश्वान् पुरुष के लिये, दानशील के लिये ।
भावार्थभाषाः - भावार्थ- हम 'दिवोदास, सुन्वन्, भरद्वाज व दाश्वान्' बनें जिससे वरणीय धनों को प्राप्त कर सकें।

पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - (त्वम्) (इमा) इमानि (वार्य्या) वार्य्याणि स्वीकर्त्तुमर्हाणि (पुरु) बहूनि (दिवोदासाय) कमनीयस्य पदार्थस्य दात्रे (सुन्वते) सोमौषध्यादिसिद्धिसम्पादकाय (भरद्वाजाय) धृतविज्ञानाय (दाशुषे) विज्ञानस्य दात्रे ॥५॥
भावार्थभाषाः - मनुष्यैस्सत्योपदेशका विद्याप्रचारकाश्च सदैव सत्कर्त्तव्या नेतरे ॥५॥

आचार्य धर्मदेव विद्या मार्तण्ड
Whom should men honor is told.
अन्वय:
O highly learned person! you give these many acceptable articles to a person who is himself giver of good and desirable thing, who is extractor of the juice of Soma and other nourishing plants and who is upholder of various sciences and their propagator. Therefore, you are worthy of respect.
भावार्थभाषाः - Men should respect only those who are preachers of truth and knowledge, and not the others.
टिप्पणी: It is not correct on the part of Sayanacharya to take the word भरत: used in the fourth mantra and दिवोदास and भारद्वाज used in fifth names of particular king and sages saying 'भरतः दोष्यन्तिरेतत्संज्ञको राजा'(म० 4 ) दिवोदासाख्याय राज्ञे दिवोदासाख्याय राज्ञे भरद्वाज ऋषये म० 5) and thus mislead Prof. Wilson, Griffith and 'other translators who have simply said in the footnotes :- Bharata Sayana considers Bharata here to be the Raj, the son of Dushyanta Prof. Wilson Vol. III P. 264 “Bharata; according to Sayaya the king of that name, son of Dushyanta and Sakuntala, (Griffith-The Hymns of Rigveda Vol. I. P. 571). It is against the fundamental Principles of the Vedic Terminology accepted by Sayanacharya himself in his interpretation to the commentary on the Rigveda while strongly supporting the eternity of the Vedas. How can the Vedas be regarded as eternal, if they refer to Bharata a the son of Dushyanta born millions of years after the beginning of creations.
