वृषा॒ मद॒ इन्द्रे॒ श्लोक॑ उ॒क्था सचा॒ सोमे॑षु सुत॒पा ऋ॑जी॒षी। अ॒र्च॒त्र्यो॑ म॒घवा॒ नृभ्य॑ उ॒क्थैर्द्यु॒क्षो राजा॑ गि॒रामक्षि॑तोतिः ॥१॥
vṛṣā mada indre śloka ukthā sacā someṣu sutapā ṛjīṣī | arcatryo maghavā nṛbhya ukthair dyukṣo rājā girām akṣitotiḥ ||
वृषा॑। मदः॑। इन्द्रे॑। श्लोकः॑। उ॒क्था। सचा॑। सोमे॑षु। सु॒त॒ऽपाः। ऋ॒जी॒षी। अ॒र्च॒त्र्यः॑। म॒घऽवा॑। नृऽभ्यः॑। उ॒क्थैः। द्यु॒क्षः। राजा॑। गि॒राम्। अक्षि॑तऽऊतिः ॥१॥

हे मनुष्या ! य इन्द्रे श्लोको वृषा मदः सचा सुतपा ऋजीषी मघवाक्षितोतिः द्युक्षा राजोक्थैः सोमेषूक्था गिरां नृभ्यो या अर्चत्र्यः प्रजास्तासां श्रोता भवेत् स एव राज्यं कर्तुमर्हेदिति विजानीत ॥१॥

What should a king do-is told.
That man only, who is the mightiest, blissful, praised even among wealthy persons, united with all by love, great ascetic, man of upright nature, and endowed with earned wealth, whose protection (which) does not decay (is the right man to ensure protection of all). Such a person brilliant, shining on account of his admirable actions. utterer of speeches full of justice and knowledge for men, hearer of the requests or complaints of his subjects. Honor him because he is fit to rule and none else.
