हे इन्द्र मरुत्वान् ! वृषभस्त्वं रणाय मदायानुष्वधं सोमं पिब। जठरे मध्व ऊर्मिमासिञ्चस्व यतस्त्वं प्रदिवः सुतानां राजाऽसि तस्मादेतदाचर ॥१॥

The duties of a ruler are told.
A opulent ruler ! you have many noble men under you. You are mighty, and drink the Soma (juice of invigorating herbs and drugs) for your happiness and vigor in the battle fought with the wicked, and stock suitable good food. Have sweet Soma (juice) in full measures in your belly. Because, you are the lord of the wealth of various kinds generated from the light of knowledge and humility, therefore have its' drink.

या सूक्तात राजा व सूर्याच्या गुणाचे वर्णन असल्यामुळे या सूक्ताच्या अर्थाची मागच्या सूक्ताच्या अर्थाबरोबर संगती जाणावी.
