फिर भी अगले मन्त्र में सभाध्यक्ष के गुणों का उपदेश किया है ॥
Word-Meaning: - हे विद्वन् शूरवीर मनुष्य ! जिससे (त्वम्) तू (पदा) पाद से आक्रान्त हुए शत्रुसमूह को मारनेवाले के (चित्) समान (शुष्णहत्येषु) शत्रुओं के बलों के हनने योग्य व्यवहारों में (महान्तम्) महागुणविशिष्ट (कुत्सम्) वज्रादि को धारण करके प्रजा की (आविथ) रक्षा करते और दुष्टों को (अरन्धयः) मारते हो (अतिथिग्वाय) अतिथियों के जाने-आने को शुद्ध मार्ग के लिये (अर्बुदम्) असंख्यात गुणविशिष्ट (शम्बरम्) बल को (नि क्रमीः) क्रम से बढ़ाते हो (सनात्) अच्छे प्रकार सेवन करने से (पदा) पदाक्रान्त शत्रुसेना का नाश करते हो (दस्युहत्याय) शत्रुओं के मारने रूप व्यवहार के लिये (एव) ही (जज्ञिषे) उत्पन्न हुए हो, इससे हम लोग आप का सत्कार करते हैं ॥ ६ ॥
Connotation: - सभाध्यक्षादिकों को योग्य है कि जैसे शत्रुओं को मार, श्रेष्ठों की रक्षा, मार्गों को शुद्ध और असंख्यात बल को धारण कर शत्रुओं के मारने के लिये अत्यन्त प्रभाव बढ़ावें ॥ ६ ॥

'शुष्ण, शम्बर व अर्बुद' का संहार
Word-Meaning: - १. 'शुष्ण' काम - असुर का नाम है । यह मनुष्य का शोषण करनेवाला है । काम से शक्ति का क्षय होकर मनुष्य का शोषण हो जाता है । 'कुत्स' वह ऋषि है जो काम की हिंसा के लिए सदा यत्नशील होता है ['कुथ' हिंसायाम्], परन्तु यह कुत्स स्वयं काम को थोड़े ही जीत पाता है ! 'त्वया ह स्विद् युजा वयम्' - उस प्रभु से मिलकर ही यह उसका संहार करता है, अतः कहते हैं - हे प्रभो! (त्वम्) = आप ही (शुष्णहत्येषु) = इस शोषक कामासुर का संहार होने पर (कुत्सम्) = वासनाओं को विनष्ट करनेवाले इस ऋषि को (आविथ) = सुरक्षित करते हो । २. शम्बर शान्ति को आवृत कर डालनेवाला असुर है । यह 'राग - द्वेष, घृणा व क्रूरता' के रूप में मनुष्य में उद्भूत होता है । हे प्रभो ! आप (अतिथिग्वाय) = अतिथिग्व के लिए (शम्बरम्) = इस शम्बरासुर को (अरन्धयः) = नष्ट कर डालते हैं, चीर - फाड़ देते हैं [to rend] | अतिथिम्ब वह व्यक्ति है जोकि 'विद्वान् व्रात्य' अतिथियों के स्वागत के लिए सदा गतिशील होता है । वस्तुतः जिस घर में 'श्रोत्रिय ब्रह्मनिष्ठ' विद्वान् आते - जाते रहते हैं, उस घर में लोगों की मनोवृत्ति ईर्ष्या - द्वेष से मलिन नहीं होती । ३. 'अर्बुद' [अर - Little बुन्दति Sees] वह असुर है जो औरों को सदा छोटा ही देखता है, अपने को बड़ा मानता है । एवं, जिस व्यक्ति में अभिमान कूट - कूटकर भरा हो वही 'अर्बुद' है । हे प्रभो ! आप (महान्तं चित् अर्बुदम्) = धन - धान्यादि के दृष्टिकोण से अत्यन्त बढ़े हुए भी इस अभिमानी पुरुष को (पदा निक्रमीः) = पाँवों तले कुचल देते हो । यह उक्ति ही बन गई है कि 'अभिमानी का सिर नीचा' [Pride goeth before a fall] ४. इस प्रकार हे प्रभो ! आप (सनात् एव) = सदा से ही (दस्युहत्याय) = इन 'काम, ईष्या व अभिमान' आदि नाशक वृत्तियों के ध्वंस के लिए (जज्ञिषे) होते हैं ।
Connotation: - भावार्थ - प्रभुकृपा से हम 'काम, ईर्ष्या व अभिमान' से ऊपर उठे ।

The attributes of the President of the Assembly are further taught in the sixth Mantra.
Anvay:
O learned and brave person, in the battles whether tyrants are slain or trodden down, thou shouldst wield powerful weapons and protect thy subjects. Thou shouldst slay thy enemies. For attending upon the guests and thus treading upon the path of righteousness, thou shouldst bear great might full of innumerable virtues. Thou art born to tread with thy foot upon the thieves, robbers and other wicked people or for the destruction of the oppressors. It is for this reason that, thou art worthy of respect.
Word-Meaning: - (शुष्णहत्येषु ) शुष्णानां बलानां हत्या हननं येषु संग्रामेषु शुष्णमिति बलनाम ( निघ० २.९ ) = In battles where strength is displayed. ( अतिथिग्वाय) अतिथीनां गमनाय अत्रातिथ्युपपदाद् गम्धातोर्बाहुलका दौणादिकोड्व: प्रत्ययः = For approaching or serving the guests. ( शम्बरम्) बलम् | शम्बरमिति बलनाम ( निघ० २.९) = Power or strength. ( अर्बुदम्) असंख्यातगुणविशिष्टम् = Endowed with or full of innumerable virtues.
Connotation: - It is the duty of the President of the Assembly, the Commander of the army and other officers of the State to kill their enemies like the sun dispelling darkness, to protect the righteous, to tread upon the noble path, to bear infinite might and to increase their influence to put an end to their' foes.
Footnote: It is regrettable that Skanda Swami, Venkatamadhava, Sayanacharya, Prof. Wilson, Griffith and many others have taken Kutsa, Shushna, Atithigva, Shambara and Arbuda as proper nouns denoting some sages, kings, or demons. But as has been pointed out before, it is against the fundamental principle of the Vedic terminology and strangely enough, opposed to the principles enunciated and supported by Skanda Swami in his commentary on the Nirukta and Sayanacharya in the introduction to his commentary on the Rigveda. The inconsistency of these great scholars of the medieval period is therefore all the more surprising and deplorable. Rishi Dayananda has interpreted some of these words like कुत्स (Kutsa) शुष्ण (Shushna ) शम्बर (Shambara) on the authority of the Vedic Lexicon which clearly states. कुत्सइति वज्रनाम ( निघ० २.२० )
= Thunderbolt or weapon. शुष्णमिति बलनाम (निघ० २.९) =Strength. शम्बरमिति बलनाम ( निघ० २.१ ) = Strength.
Regarding af even Skanda Swami explains it as अतिथीन् प्रति परिचारकतया गच्छतीत्यतिथिग्वः । = He who serves the guests. The meaning given by Sayanacharya is also similar i. e. to be approached by guests. But wrongly they have taken it to mean here a king name Divodasa which word does not at all occur in the Mantra. It is gratifying to see that a great South Indian Scholar and Yogi Shri Kapali Shastri has clearly hinted at the derivative meanings of these words in his Siddhanjana Bhashya on the Rigveda. After quoting Sayanacharya's meanings he writes- अत्र कुत्सशुष्णादीनां गूढोऽर्थः ज्ञेयः | कुत्सः उक्तः । ( १. ३३.१४ ) देवद्वेषिणां शत्रूणां वा कुत्सनात् अधः करणात् कुत्सः इत्युत्पश्यामः । शुष्ण:- शोषयिता रसानाम् । अतिथिग्वाय-अतिथीनाम् अग्निप्रभृतीनां देवानां स्वस्मिन् स्थानासनादिसुखविधायक: पुरुषो यजमानो दिवो दास्ये वर्तत इति दिवो दास उच्यते । शं सुखं वृणोति सुखस्य आवरक इति । ( श्री कपालिशास्त्री सिद्धांजनभाष्ये २ य खण्डे ) पृ० २६७ । Thus he has given derivative and secret meanings of Kutsa, Shushna, Atithigva and shambara, which need not be explained at length.
